1 Preparation – Server Side
For this to be used the user must first connect their laptop to the LAN. Use a web browser to go to https://192.168.1.1:81
There may be Browser Certificate queries. Accept these and a login will present itself. Login as your user. This gives an extremely limited access to the ClearOS webconfig.
Users must be configured with OpenVPN access. To manage users, go to the Users page in webconfig. When a user is created, a certificate key/pair that is required for the OpenVPN system is automatically created.
Now go to Directory --> My Accounts --> Security and Keys
Download the Certificate Authority, Certificate, Key, and Configuration file to somewhere on your laptop.
2 Preparation – Client Side
Install ‘Securepoint SSL VPN’ program on the laptop. This is free from the Internet.
Create a new connection in this program. Add a connection name. When asked for an IP Address give it 196.44.179.205. Default Port and Protocol. For the Root CA browse to the Certificate Authority file. For the Certificate browse to the Certificate file. For the Key browse to the Key file. Make sure Server Certificate is ticked. Default all other settings.
3 Connect
Now you would connect to the Internet and run this connection. It will require your Username and password. If your password changes you have to download the Certificate Authority, Certificate, Key, and Configuration files again and re-create the connection.
Once successful your laptop is now part of the LAN network and normal use can continue. Make sure your Outlook settings are correct. You have access to your own U: drive.
